Left out of the Conversation: The Digital Divide and #IdleNoMore

Karissa Donkin, in a Toronto Star article published January 11th, discusses the rapid spread of the #IdleNoMore movement through social media. She explains, “...anyone — no matter how physically isolated they are — can participate in discussion and follow news if they have an Internet connection or smartphone.” That’s how we became aware of this issue - as students constantly plugged into social media sites, #IdleNoMore was very accessible to us. Which got us thinking, which voices were strongest in Idle No More, and which voices were being excluded?

The HUBkit: a new way of living?

Every year in the month of May, Le Salon International du Design de Montréal hosts a mega showcase for design professionals and the public. This year’s showcase was held at Place Bonaventure from May 24th until the 26th. While the kiosks and presentations were impressive as usual, one Montreal startup, ABNORMstudio, stole the show by claiming three prizes for their innovative product the HUBkit. Neighbourhoods will fall in and out of favour depending on their degree of compatibility with the modern lifestyle. I have identified four factors which I believe to be influential in the neighbourhood desirability shifts that will occur in the coming years. This should be the parents’ responsibility; schools should focus on providing good education, that is, food for thought, and leave it at that. Anything above and beyond that is social engineering.

Is he a keeper or a creeper?

We might not be aware of it, but there are many little details, if observed throughout the date, which can tell us what type of man we are dealing with. Therefore I ask, how can we distinguish the good men from the bad ones on a first date? How can we know if he’s a keeper or a creeper?

Ottawa's first Comicon hits the ground running

The rich universes in which all our favorite science fiction and fantasy franchises take place, whether it be Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings or Battlestar Galactica, may be fantastical but all have a grounding in the human condition and tend to bring out the best in both our characters and those of the fans who hold them in such high esteem.

Lasting conservative lessons from liberal reasoners

The impact of both writers was not entirely because of what they said. Popper provided a striking individual technique in showing the fallacies of Marxist and Freudian reasoning. Bloom gave a highly condensed, and very entertaining, summary of almost all the underlying discontents that historically-informed and even moderately literate adults have been bound to have about mass democracy, and the mass expansion of 'higher' education that has gone with it.

Colour Says It All

This spring, be creative and bold with your style. Also, try some pretty prints whether its florals or simple prints, don't hesitate to combine them with textured solids. The clothes we wear represent who we are. They portray our taste and our style. So my advice to you is to be fierce, be bold, be creative, be unique but most of all be real
